For my Master’s Thesis I designed the brand identity for a business called The Pôsterie. In my design research I examined our connection to past and future generations through tangible means of documentation (i.e. letters, postcards, journals, photo albums), and exposed how that connection is weakened as we transition from tactile to digital forms of storytelling. Unlike previous generations, we primarily use digital methods of storytelling and documentation (i.e. text, email, social media). I wondered, “how can we recover, strengthen, and facilitate the sense of interpersonal connection to family and friends that was once preserved through the intimacy of a handwritten letter?”
To answer this, I designed the visual language for a letter-writing café and digital app which help bring the dying art of handwriting together with the digital world. The app personalizes and facilitates the user’s experience since the tangible, handwritten letters they write are easily digitized, stored and organized. Through identity design, an ad campaign, signature patterns, a digital app, and environmental graphics for the café, The Pôsterie brand took shape.
