Role: Graphic Designer
Client: Wood Partners and the Melrose Historical Commission
These award winning interpretive panels describe the founding of the Boston Rubber Shoe Company and its contributions to the community of Melrose, MA. They are located at the historic site of the former Boston Rubber Shoe Company mill building, which was redesigned as an adaptive reuse luxury apartment complex. To fulfill their building requirements from the town’s historical commission, the developer, Wood Partners, approached VHB to produce a report and this panel installation. Our team’s historian found historic images and illustrations of the shoe mill at the local library which I integrated into the design to help tell the story. I chose a copper finish to complement the historic detailing on the building.
